Pakistan’s delegation in Moscow: On Tuesday, a high -level delegation of Pakistan reached Moscow, the capital of Russia, amidst the ongoing tension with India. The delegation met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and handed over a personal letter to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to President Vladimir Putin.
The delegation was led by Syed Tariq Fatimi, Special Assistant of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Russia’s official news agency TASS confirmed the letter to the Pakistani Embassy. This tour has taken place at a time when security cooperation and political coordination between Russia and India is continuously increasing.
Information given to Lavrov on the situation in South Asia
During the meeting, the Pakistani delegation informed Russia about the situation in South Asia. Lavarov stated the need for direct communication for restoration of trust between the two countries. The Russian Foreign Ministry was quoted as saying that dialogue is the way to build confidence.
Desire to increase bilateral cooperation from Russia
Syed Tariq Fatimi also gave best wishes for Putin on behalf of PM Sharif and expressed the desire of Pakistan to increase bilateral cooperation in various fields like energy, transport, trade. The recent tension between India and Pakistan started on 7 May after the initiative terror attack. In response, India carried out a surgical strike at terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). After this, Pakistan tried to attack the Indian military bases on 8, 9 and 10 May, but the Indian Army strongly responded to these efforts. On May 10, it was agreed to stop military actions after negotiations between DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) of the two countries.
Pak exercise to raise global support against India
Pakistan had announced last month that it would send teams of experts to many countries of the world to put its side of the four -day struggle with India in front of the international community. Moscow tour is considered part of this strategy.
Indian delegation’s visit to Russia also in discussion
It is also noteworthy that a few days ago an Indian parliamentary delegation led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi visited Russia. During this time, the delegates informed Russia about Pakistan sponsored terrorism and tried to raise international support.
