Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif is embroiled in a strange controversy. The Pizza Hut outlet in Sialkot which he inaugurated with great ceremony was later found to be fake. This matter was confirmed by the official statement of Pizza Hut company itself, which has described that store as completely unauthorized.
In the pictures and videos viral on social media, Khawaja Asif was seen cutting the ribbon of a store named Pizza Hut. Proper boards, branding and events were organized during the inauguration, making it seem like an official outlet. However, after some time it became clear that this store was not recognized by Pizza Hut.

Pizza Hut company exposed the fraud
In a statement issued by Pizza Hut, it was said that this outlet opened in Sialkot is not an authorized store of the company. The company clarified that their trademark and brand name have been misused. The company also informed that a formal complaint has been lodged with the concerned authorities regarding this fraud, so that such cases can be prevented in future.

As soon as the matter came to light, sharp reactions were seen on social media regarding Khwaja Asif. Many Pakistani users took a dig by linking it to the country’s reputation. One user wrote, “Is there anything real left in this province?” Another wrote, ‘Fake shop, fake inauguration, fake leader.’ Some people even called him a fake MNA. In Pakistan, MPs are called MNA (Member of National Assembly).
Khawaja Asif has been in controversies before also
Khawaja Asif is associated with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s party PML-N and is considered close to current Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The opposition and critics have often alleged that he won the elections with the support of the army. This is the same leader who, during the military tension with India, had claimed that Pakistan had shot down several Indian fighter planes and when asked for proof, had said that the proof was available on social media.
