After the terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan has now given open clarification after the US declares ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF) as a foreign terrorist organization. Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar said after meeting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at Washington DC that if the US has any evidence about TRF, Pakistan will welcome it.
Regarding TRF, both India and America believe that this is a new face of Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. This is the same organization that took responsibility for the deadly attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April 2025, in which many civilians died, but Pakistan is still keeping distance from TRF. Ishaq Dar said, “Lashkar-e-Taiba was abolished by Pakistan years ago. Action was taken against him, people were arrested, the organization was destroyed. He has nothing to do with TRF.”
What did Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Dar say?
Dar also stated that Pakistan had strongly opposed the inclusion of TRF in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) statement, in which the Pahalgam attack was condemned. He had told in Parliament, “We received calls from many countries, but Pakistan opposed the mention of TRF and finally that name was removed.” However, the US has officially termed the TRF as an official foreign terrorist organization (FTO) and a particularly designated global terrorist (SDGT). Pakistan welcomed it and said that if there is any evidence, it should be shared, but it is wrong to link the organization with Lashkar-e-Taiba.
India had already declared TRF terrorist organization
India had already declared TRF as a terrorist organization in January 2023 under the UAPA Act. According to South Asia Terrorism Portal, TRF started in 2019 via social media. After this, this organization has taken responsibility for many attacks – including grenade attacks, targeted murders and attacks on soldiers in Srinagar.
India has been trying to declare TRF as terrorists at the international level for the last two years. For this, in 2023, May 2024 and November 2024, India also presented evidence before the United Nations’s 1267 Sanction Committee.
What did India say about TRF?
India says that Pakistan’s army and government promotes terrorism across the border and organizations like TRF are used to spread violence in Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said in a recent address, “India believes in tourism, but Pakistan considers terrorism as tourism, which is dangerous for the world.”
