Pakistan is working on new weapons to increase the strength of its navy. There is news that Pakistan can get modern laser weapon system from Australia. For this, Pakistan is trying through Turkey. According to the report of Resonant news, Pakistan Navy had issued a tender for two 10 kW laser weapon systems and radar on 4 February. These systems will be installed on ships to protect against threats like drones.

Australian company Electro Optic Systems (EOS) is being considered a big player in this matter. The company has created a high power laser system named Apollo, whose capacity is up to 100 kW. Turkish defense company ROKETSAN has developed Alka Laser Weapon System. This system is designed to stop drones and can operate up to a distance of about 2.2 kilometers at a power of 10 kW. This includes technologies like laser, jammer, sensor and radar.

What is Pakistan’s demand?

In Pakistan’s tender, a laser system with a capacity of up to 20 kW has been demanded. It is believed that Pakistan may give priority to EOS for this deal and is negotiating through Turkey. However, currently this process is at the tender stage and no final agreement has been reached. Laser weapon system is a special type of weapon, which is called Directed Energy Weapon. In this, instead of bullets, laser beam is used, which can damage enemy drones, missiles or small ships due to very high heat.

Tension for India

The purpose of this step is to deal with the increasing drone threats in the Arabian Sea. Such weapons are increasingly being used to stop low-cost drone attacks. If Pakistan gets this modern system then its military strength can increase. Besides, its defense relations with Türkiye will become stronger. In such a situation, this can be a matter of concern for India also, because there is already tension between the two countries. At present, it remains to be seen when and how this deal is completed.
