The latest statement of Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has created a stir in the politics of Pakistan. In a public program he said that culturally and civilizationally Sindh has always been a part of the stream of India. He also added that the borders have changed many times in history, so what will happen in the future. This cannot be decided in advance.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has been irritated by Rajnath Singh’s statement. He termed the comments of the Indian Defense Minister as inconsistent, non-factual and baseless speculation. Murad Ali Shah said that Sindh is a province of Pakistan which is very strong with its identity, its language and its culture. The idea of separating it can be possible only in the world of imagination. He sarcastically advised that India’s leaders should stop daydreaming.
Historical identity of Sindh
Murad Ali Shah responded by claiming that in 1936, Sindh was separated from the Bombay Presidency by the British and established as an independent entity. At that time Pakistan had not even come into existence. Let us tell you that the population of Hindus is highest in Sindh.
Why is Rajnath Singh’s statement being considered political?
Rajnath Singh said that the relationship between civilizations is not limited by border lines and Sindh is not culturally separated from India. He further said that changes in boundaries may be possible in the future and hinted that Sindh may rejoin India. He also said that the sorrow of Sindhi Hindus is still alive that at the time of partition, Sindh went to Pakistan.
