Former Pakistani Ambassador Hussain Haqqani took a sharp taunt at Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday (27 October). In fact, Shahbaz Sharif had praised US President Donald Trump, after which Haqqani called him the gold medalist of ‘Trump’s flattery Olympics’.
Shahbaz Sharif, while posting on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), wrote that Trump has played an important role in resolving the border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia. He also said that Trump’s efforts have saved the lives of millions of people around the world.
What did Shahbaz write in his post?
Shahbaz wrote in his post, “I express my deep gratitude to President Donald Trump, who saved millions of lives around the world through the KL Accord, Gaza Peace Plan and efforts to establish peace and stability in the Middle East and South Asia.” After this statement, former Pakistani Ambassador Hussain Haqqani targeted him and wrote, “Fareed Zakaria had jokingly said that if ‘flattery of Trump’ is considered an Olympic sport, then the Prime Minister of Pakistan is still winning gold in it.

This post of Haqqani was also reposted by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. This is not the first time that Shahbaz Sharif has praised Trump. Recently, during the Peace Summit held in Egypt, he had called Trump “Man of Peace”. Not only this, he also claimed that Pakistan has sent Trump’s name for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Shahbaz had said, “I sincerely feel that Trump is the most worthy candidate for peace. He established peace in South Asia and saved the lives of millions of people.” However, after these statements he was trolled heavily on social media. Many users said that Shahbaz Sharif has tarnished the image of the country and made Pakistan a Trump-friendly nation.
