PCB supports Bangladesh for ICC T20 World Cup 2026: An important board meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is going to be held on Wednesday i.e. January 21, 2026. In this meeting, a final decision can be taken regarding Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup 2026. On Tuesday, January 20, just a day before the ICC Board meeting, the Pakistan Cricket Board has formally written an email to the ICC supporting Bangladesh’s stand. According to a report by ESPN Cricinfo, PCB has supported Bangladesh’s stand and said in an email to ICC that BCB’s decision of not playing in India is right. It has also been said in the report that PCB has also kept all the ICC Board members in the CC of its email.

What is the controversy about not coming to India?

The controversy started when, following instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), IPL team KKR released Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from its squad. After this, Bangladesh refused to come to India in February for the T20 World Cup 2026, which is going to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. All the group matches of Bangladesh are to be played in India only. On January 4, BCB wrote an email to ICC demanding that its matches be shifted from India to Sri Lanka. For this he cited ‘security concerns’. After which the ICC rejected these concerns of Bangladesh as baseless.

Bangladesh stuck to its stand

In many discussions held between ICC and BCB, no solution has been found yet regarding this issue. At the same time, Bangladesh is adamant on its stand that it will not play its World Cup matches in India. BCB officials showed a stubborn stand in the meeting with ICC representatives in Dhaka on Saturday last week. In another report of ESPN Cricinfo, it was revealed that ICC, while rejecting Bangladesh’s demands, had given it time till January 21, 2026 to take a final decision, after which ICC will take its final decision.
