Two years after losing the final of the 2007 T20 World Cup to India, the Pakistani team was once again in the final. Pakistan created history by defeating Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the final of the 2009 T20 World Cup. Pakistan had become the T20 World Champion for the first time, but after that the secret of the cheating that happened with the world winning team was revealed by Saeed Ajmal.
Saeed Ajmal had told in a media interaction this year that after winning the 2009 World Cup, the then Prime Minister of Pakistan had given a check of Rs 25-25 lakh to each player of the winning team, but due to the check bouncing, no one got even a single penny.

Saeed Ajmal, who came as a guest on a Pakistani YouTube channel, made a big revelation and said, “When we returned after winning the 2009 T20 World Cup, we did not get much money. Because we were going to tour Sri Lanka after that. The then Prime Minister of Pakistan invited us and gave a check of Rs 25-25 lakh to each player. We were happy, because it was a huge amount in those days. But the check bounced.”
Ajmal was shocked and said that even the government’s check could bounce. The players were told that the Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board would handle the matter, but the Chairman clearly refused. PCB Chairman shrugged it off and said that only the Prime Minister will handle this work. Ajmal revealed that Pakistani players received the same money which came from ICC.

After 2009, Pakistan has never won the T20 World Cup title. Although he had traveled till the finals in 2022. In the 2022 final, England defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets.
