GST 2.0 in the country has come into effect from 22 September. By implementing it on the first day of Navratri, the government has given great relief to the common man. Now taxes on everyday use like milk, bread, cheese, butter, flour, pulses, oil, soap, shampoo and children’s education have become less or zero. Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed it as a savings festival and said that this will save the money of both poor and middle class.

Savings in dairy products

  • UHT milk is now included in zero GST from 5%, the price of 1 liter pack decreased from Rs 77 to Rs 75.
  • 12% GST on cheese was removed to zero. 200 grams of cheese will now be available for 80 rupees instead of 90 rupees.
  • The pack of butter 500 grams will be reduced from Rs 305 to Rs 285.
  • GST on ghee was reduced from 12% to 5%. 1 liter ghee of Amul is now available for Rs 610 instead of Rs 650.

Relief in food and snacks

  • Bread and pizza get 5% in zero GST, bread pack will be available for Rs 20 instead of Rs 20.
  • Pasta, noodles, corn flakes were reduced from 12-18% slab to 5%.
  • Tax reduced from 12-18% to 5% on biscuits and salty.

Toilet and personal care products

  • 18% GST on oil, shampoo, soap was reduced to 5%. Now a shampoo pack of Rs 100 will be available for Rs 105 instead of Rs 118.

Sweet and chocolate

Chocolate and sweets have also become cheaper. Chocolate of 50 rupees will now be available for 44 rupees. The tax on laddus of Rs 400 per kg will be only Rs 20 instead of Rs 72.

Children’s education items

Notebook, pencil, rubber, globe, practice book, graph book and laboratory notebooks were made GST free. Due to this improvement, the prices of about 99% everyday goods have come down. The aim of the government is that before the festivals, the pressure on the common man’s pocket should be reduced and people can save everyday things.
