Sadar Kotwali police of Basti has arrested the mastermind of codeine cough syrup, Pankaj Kumar, from Hadiya intersection. Pankaj used to run a shop named Ganpati Farma, from where codeine cough syrup was supplied on a large scale. Codeine cough syrup was supplied from this firm to many shops in the district.
It was told that the name of Ganpati Pharma had come up in the police investigation. As soon as his name came up in the codeine cough syrup scandal, the proprietor of Ganpati Pharma closed the shop and fled from the spot. The police was continuously working on this case and as soon as the evidence was found, they were successful in arresting the mastermind.
All firms were supplied by Ganpati Pharma.
Let us tell you that in the investigation of codeine syrup, a case of large scale supply of codeine syrup was revealed in Basti district, in which large scale supply of codeine cough was revealed from many firms of Basti. Police investigation revealed that codeine syrup was supplied on a large scale to all the firms from Ganpati Pharma, which was operating from Rahmatganj locality.
Ganpati Pharma shop was not on the spot
After this, when the investigation team reached the spot, it was found that the shop named Ganpati Pharma does not exist at that spot. When the landlord was talked to, it was found that the shop opened for a month or two after taking it on rent and was then lying closed. After this the investigation team started searching for the proprietor of Ganpati Pharma.
Police arrested the accused
Police investigation revealed that Pankaj Kumar, son of Putul Sahni, resident of Trilochanpur, Varanasi, in whose name this firm was registered, police conducted a thorough search and arrested Pankaj Kumar on the information of the informer.

ASP Shyamakant told that Pankaj Kumar, the mastermind of codeine syrup, has been arrested, his bank account has been frozen. Rs 9 lakh has been frozen in the account, a case has been registered against it under sections 276, 277, 278, 318(4), 338, 336(3), 340(2) BNS and 8(C)/21(C), NDPS Act, the matter is being further investigated.
