A major accident occurred when a part of a pillar of the under-construction metro project collapsed on Saturday afternoon in Mulund, north-east area of Mumbai. One person has died in the accident caused by falling slab, while some other people have been injured. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed deep sorrow over this incident and has ordered an investigation into the matter.
The family of the deceased will be given financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh by the state government and the entire expense of the treatment of the injured will be borne by the state government. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The officer said that this accident happened around 12.20 pm on LBS Road, in front of Johnson & Johnson factory. He told that a slab of the pillar broke and fell on the auto rickshaw parked below, due to which the auto was completely shattered. There is a possibility of three to four people being injured.
Apart from firefighters and policemen, employees of the metro construction company are present at the site of the incident and are monitoring the rescue operation. The officer said that more information is still being collected regarding the incident.
Formation of investigation committee
MMRDA has constituted a high level inquiry committee under the chairmanship of Director (Metro PIU) Shri Basavaraj M. Bhadragond to investigate the incident of collapse of a part of parapet near Pier 196, near Mulund Fire Station in the under construction area of Metro Line 4 project.
