Before the Bihar Assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had inaugurated Patna Metro on 6 October 2025. The picture that has emerged in the ground report of ABP News after four and a half months is shocking. Even during office hours, two out of three bogies were completely empty and only four passengers were boarding the train.
ABP News reporter left for Patliputra bus terminal after taking ticket from Bhootnath station at 10 am on Tuesday. Out of the three bogies, two were completely empty and only four people including a reporter were traveling in one bogie. In the return journey too, two out of three bogies remained empty and in one bogie there were only 9 passengers including the reporter. In this way, a total of 13 passengers traveled in two trips during office hours.
156 passengers daily, income 4-5 thousand, expenditure 18 lakh
The metro train runs from 8 am to 8 pm and the fare from Bhootnath to Pataliputra Bus Terminal is Rs 15. There are 24 trips per day which include 12 up and 12 down. According to ABP calculations, an average of 156 passengers travel in a day and the income from ticket sales is around Rs 4 to 5 thousand. On the other hand, more than Rs 18 lakh is being spent every day on maintenance and salaries of employees. Any official refused to speak on this.
Initially there were 8-9 thousand passengers, now only 4-12 per trip
When the metro started, 8 to 9 thousand passengers used to travel every day, but gradually the number decreased and now only 4 to 12 passengers are left in a trip. Passengers say that the metro is limited to only three stations so there is no crowd. The number of passengers will increase only when the metro reaches Patna Junction and other major places.
