In the press conference held in Lahore, Mohsin Naqvi clearly said that if the Indian team does not want to join hands, then Pakistan also has no special need for it. According to him, “If India does not want to join hands, then there is no need for us either. Pakistan will also treat India only as equals.”
Naqvi reiterated that Pakistan’s thinking from the beginning has been that cricket should be kept away from politics. He said that the Prime Minister has also clearly told him that sports should not be allowed to be affected by political tension. He also made it clear that it cannot be that India adopts a different stand and Pakistan retreats. Naqvi also said that everyone has seen the attitude shown on the field and the future course of action will be decided on that basis.
No-handshake trend continues after Asia Cup
Players from India and Pakistan have not shaken hands on the field since the Men’s Asia Cup held in September. The reason for this was the Pahalgam attack in April, in which many tourists were killed in the name of religion. After this, the same picture was seen in the Women’s World Cup, Under-19 Men’s Asia Cup and the Rising Stars Asia Cup played in Doha.
Tension was visible in the Under-19 final also
Even in the recently played Under-19 Asia Cup final, the atmosphere was very hot during the India-Pakistan match. An argument was seen on the field between Pakistani bowler Ali Raza and Indian captain Ayush Mhatre. Later there was also a dispute between Ali Raza and Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed also gave a statement on this entire matter. He said that he had advised his players to exercise restraint, but the Indian players appeared overly emotional.
Naqvi also embroiled in trophy controversy
Mohsin Naqvi has been in controversies before also. After the Men’s Asia Cup final, there was a big uproar when the trophy was not given on the field after India’s victory. Allegations were made that Naqvi left the stadium with the trophy. Mohsin Naqvi, while giving his clarification on the trophy controversy, said that as the President of Asian Cricket Council (ACC), he has completely followed all the rules and protocols. The Indian captain or BCCI representative can receive the trophy by coming to the ACC office.
