Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has geared up for the upcoming assembly elections in Kerala. Rahul has announced five big guarantees in Thiruvananthapuram before the elections. In these announcements issued by Congress, emphasis has been laid on special schemes for women, youth and senior citizens. Rahul Gandhi says that the purpose of these guarantees is to strengthen social security, provide economic relief to families and increase employment opportunities in the state.

Under the announcements, women will be given free travel facility in Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses. Apart from this, financial assistance of one thousand rupees will be given every month to the girl students studying in the college to support them in higher education and to reduce the financial burden on the families.
Social pension will be increased to Rs 3,000
It has been proposed to increase the social welfare pension given to the weaker and deprived sections to ₹ 3,000 per month, so that they can get better economic security.
Free health insurance up to Rs 25 lakh
To strengthen health security, under the proposed Oommen Chandy Health Insurance Scheme, it has been planned to provide free health insurance cover of up to Rs 25 lakh to each family. This scheme is proposed in the name of late former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Interest-free loans for youth
To promote employment and entrepreneurship, a promise has been made to provide interest free loan of up to Rs 5 lakh to the youth to start their own business. Congress believes that this will create new startups and employment opportunities.
Separate department for senior citizens
The announcements also include a proposal to create a dedicated department to ensure the welfare, safety and dignity of the elderly. According to Rahul Gandhi, these guarantees will prove to be an important step towards strengthening the social structure of Kerala and improving the standard of living of common citizens.
