Permission to fly kites received in Lahore, Pakistan after 25 years, know why it was banned

Kite flying has returned to Punjab province of Pakistan after almost two and a half decades. The government has given permission to fly kites on Basant Utsav, but strict rules have been implemented for it. Punjab Governor Sardar Salim Haider has signed this order. After this decision, the cultural identity and tradition of Punjab is expected to be revived.

Permission granted with rules
The government has clarified that now kite flying can be done, but only under the prescribed rules and safety standards. This step has been taken to save the culture as well as to ensure the safety of the people. If a person breaks the law, he will have to face heavy punishment. According to the new law, those who break the rules can be jailed for a minimum of three years and a maximum of five years. Along with this, a fine of up to Rs 2 million can also be imposed. Police have also been given permission to search suspicious places and houses and cases registered under this law will not be bailable.

Complete ban on dangerous manja
The government has given permission to use only ordinary thread. Manjha with metal strings, chemically coated threads, glass or blade-like edges is completely banned. Strict legal action will be taken against those who use such threads.

Rules for children too
Children below 18 years of age will not be allowed to fly kites. If a minor is caught flying a kite for the first time, he will be fined Rs 50,000 and if the rule is broken for the second time, the fine will increase to Rs 1 lakh. If payment is not made, action will be taken against the child’s guardian.

Monitoring will be done through QR code
The government has implemented a registration system to regulate kite flying. All shopkeepers selling kites and making manja will have to be registered with the government. There will be QR code on every kite and related shop so that the rules can be monitored. Apart from this, kite flying clubs will also have to register with the office of the Deputy Commissioner. The government has also said that arrangements will be made to provide incentives to those who complain about rule breakers.
