Archaeologists have discovered a 3,800 -year -old city Penico in Peru’s Suppe Valley. It is considered part of Peru’s ancient Carral Civilization. The credit for this discovery goes to the well-known archaeologist Dr. Ruth Shaidi of Peru, who presented it to the world in July 2025.
This discovery challenges the old assumptions of the American continent. Till now it was believed that American civilization started with ACTEC, Maya and Inca civilizations, but the Carol civilization says that even thousands of years before them, there was an advanced society here.
Characteristics of Penico and Carol Civilization
18 structures have been found at the Penico site, including temples and residential complexes. This is evidence that Carols were able to deal with climate disasters. The Carol civilization developed along with the early civilizations of Mesopotamia and Egypt about 5,000 years ago. It is believed that about 3,000 people lived in the city of Penico. Many small villages were inhabited around it. The status of the Supa Valley connected it to the Pacific Coast, Andean valleys and Amazon regions, developing trade and cultural networks.
Life and culture
The life of the Carol society was rich and diverse. Cotton, sweet potato, fruits, squash and chili were grown here. The business included bringing minerals from the mountains and exchange of goods. People also kept pets like squirrels and monkeys.
Art and music
The architecture of Carol civilization was earthquake resistant. The amphitherators made here were special, where big ceremonies were held. 32 flutes have been found in excavation, which were made of Pelican bones. They were used in religious and cultural events.
Decline of civilization
Climate change and long droughts influenced the Carol civilization about 4,000 years ago. Rivers and fields dried up, forcing people to leave their home. Gradually this civilization ended.
Importance for American history
This discovery shows that the roots of American civilization are very deep and ancient. Carol civilization is not only an example of organized urban life, but also states that people were part of peaceful and struggle-free society at that time.
