A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court to cancel the India-Pakistan match to be held on 14 September in the Asia Cup T20. LLB students named Urvashi Jain, Shreya Roy, Ayushi Dwivedi and Jahnavi Tomar have filed this petition. The petitioners have described the match with Pakistan as a mockery of national sentiments, citing other incidents including Pahalgam terror attack.
What has been said in the petition?
The petition said that the match is going to harm the morale of national interests and armed forces. Dozens of people were killed in a terrorist attack on 22 April 2025 in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. Between February and May 2025, the Pakistani Army violated the ceasefire several times between February and May 2025. In such a situation, the wrong message goes from this match that India gives a cricket game with the country that gives refuge.
National dignity and safety more important than earning money- petitioner
The petitioners have also said that national dignity and security are more important than earning money. He has demanded that the court order to stop the India-Pakistan match to be held in the United Arab Emirates. Also, instruct the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to implement the National Sports Administration Act, 2025 (National Sports Governance Act, 2025). Under this act, cricket should be brought under the purview of the National Sports Federation.
