Prime Minister Narendra Modi today Saturday (February 14) landed in the country’s first Highway Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in Dibrugarh, Assam in an Air Force military transport aircraft (C-130J Super Hercules). This facility has been built on a highway strip in Upper Assam, which will provide alternative landing space for fighter planes, transport aircraft and helicopters in case of emergency.
This emergency landing facility is being considered an important step in the defense and strategic preparedness of Northeast India. An emergency landing facility is a highway strip where vehicles run during normal times, but when needed, it can be converted into a runway for aircraft to land and take off. Let us tell you that Dibrugarh ELF is in the upper part of Assam, which is very close to the India-China border. The distance of LAC adjacent to China is only 240 kilometers.
Rafale, Sukhoi-30 MKI landed on the highway strip
Rafale, Sukhoi-30 MKI, C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft, Dornier surveillance aircraft, Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) all these jets successfully landed and took off on the highway strip. Apart from this, evacuation of injured by helicopters (casualty evacuation) was also practiced. This facility will be useful in war as well as humanitarian aid missions.

Plan to create 28-29 ELF across the country
Let us tell you that in the year 2021 also, PM Modi had landed by plane on a similar strip built in Uttar Pradesh. This is also a demonstration of the army’s capability. The Air Force has prepared a project to make 28-29 such ELFs across the country. Let us tell you that 15 preparations have been made. The nearest airbase to the emergency landing facility in Assam where PM Modi landed is Jhabua where Sukhoi is deployed.
In fact, North East India is adjacent to the sensitive borders of China, Myanmar and Bangladesh. In such a situation, these projects will protect from enemy attacks. Apart from providing faster response and better logistics to the Indian Army, connectivity will also be improved for the common people.
