Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia on his two-day official visit. On Sunday, 8 February 2026, he was given a grand ceremonial welcome and guard of honor at the Perdana Putra Building, the Prime Minister’s Office of Malaysia. This welcome reflects the strong and old relations between India and Malaysia.
Prime Minister Modi reached Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, February 7, where Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim himself arrived at the airport to welcome him. During this, Malaysia’s Human Resources Minister Ramanan Ramakrishnan and Deputy Foreign Minister Lukanisman bin Awang Sawani were also present.
Spectacular presentation of music and dance
At the reception held on Sunday, a red carpet was laid and a spectacular presentation of traditional music and dance was given. The common heritage of India and Malaysia was shown through these cultural programs. Prime Minister Modi appeared emotional with this warm welcome. He wrote on the social media platform ‘X’ that he was deeply touched by the warm welcome given by his friend Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and was looking forward to the talks.

Arrived to participate in the Indian community program
After the welcome, both the Prime Ministers traveled in the same car to attend the Indian community program organized in Kuala Lumpur. On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi praised the strong relations between the people of India and Malaysia and described it as the real strength of the friendship between the two countries. After this, important bilateral talks are going to take place between Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Many topics like defence, security, trade, investment, technology and innovation will be discussed in these meetings. It is expected that many agreements will also be made during this period, which will further strengthen the relations between the two countries.
Prime Minister Modi’s statement
In the statement given before the visit, Prime Minister Modi had said that relations between India and Malaysia are continuously progressing. He said that the purpose of this visit is to increase defense cooperation, strengthen economic partnership and work together in new areas. This is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third visit to Malaysia and his first visit after the two countries got the status of comprehensive strategic partnership in August 2024.
