Pakistan has created a new post of Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) by making the 27th amendment in the Constitution, on which Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir is to be appointed. After appointment to this post, Asim Munir will probably become the most powerful army chief in the history of Pakistan, but the notification of Munir’s appointment as CDF has not been issued yet. A new controversy seems to be arising from this.
At one end of this dispute is Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir and at the other end is the country’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who is currently on a foreign trip. In such a situation, experts say that Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif is deliberately ignoring this matter and is traveling to other countries, so that he is not present at the time of issuing the notification for the appointment of CDF.
Sharif does not want to issue notification- Devasher
Author and National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) member Tilak Devasher told news agency ANI, “PM Shehbaz Sharif first left for Bahrain and from there he proceeded to London, which is leading to speculations that he is deliberately staying away to avoid issuing the notification of CDF appointment. This makes it clear that he wants Asim Munir as the Army Chief and Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) for five years.” “Do not want to issue appointment notification.” “Sharif thinks he can escape the consequences by ignoring or not signing the CDF appointment notification, but that will not happen,” he said.
Pakistan currently does not have an army chief – Devasher
Devasher said, “Pakistan is in a very bad condition at this time because at present Pakistan does not have an Army Chief and even the Nuclear Command Authority is leaderless because Asim Munir’s three-year tenure as Army Chief has ended and notification has not yet been issued for his appointment to the post of CDF before November 29, 2025.”
