A very serious and shocking case related to children’s health has come to light. Telangana Drug Control Administration (DCA) has issued an order to ban Almont-Kid syrup from being given to children with immediate effect. The department has issued an urgent advisory in this regard and said that a very poisonous chemical called Ethylene Glycol (EG) has been found in this syrup.
This action has been taken on the basis of the lab report received from Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), Kolkata. The report has confirmed that this medicine of batch number AL-24002, manufactured by Bihar-based company ‘Tridus Remedies’, is adulterated and deadly. This syrup is usually prescribed by doctors to treat allergies, hay fever and asthma in children.
what did the investigation find
During investigation, it was found that the amount of ethylene glycol in the syrup was much more than the prescribed standards. According to experts, ethylene glycol is an industrial solvent, which is used in making anti-freeze and coolant. If it enters the body, it can cause serious damage to the kidneys, affect the nervous system and can prove fatal, especially for children. All drug inspectors of the state have been ordered to immediately seize the stock of this batch from medical stores, drug distributors and hospitals and stop its sale completely. The administration has appealed to the parents that if they have Almont-Kid syrup of batch number AL-24002, then do not use it at all and immediately inform the concerned drug control authorities.
legal action initiated
Strict legal action has been initiated against the company responsible for manufacturing and distributing adulterated medicines. Officials say that the culprits will not be spared under any circumstances. Such adulteration in children’s medicines has once again raised serious questions on the drug regulatory system of the country. The administration has clearly said that there will be no compromise with public health. For the convenience of the people, a toll-free number has also been issued, so that information about any suspected medicine can be given immediately.
