A young man was beaten up that day. After this, another youth was attacked in Mahavirasthan area on Tuesday. Due to this, tension increased in two groups.

According to media reports, the quarrel started on 29 June. That day a young man was beaten up, then on Tuesday, another faction attacked a young man from another area to take revenge on Tuesday. After which both groups clashed in Bagrakot on Wednesday afternoon. People threw stones at each other and damaged many trains and houses. Seeing the atmosphere deteriorating, the police reached the spot. At first an attempt was made to convince the crowd, but if the matter did not work, then tear gas shells had to be released.
Police deputy commissioner reached the spot
As the situation deteriorated, Senior Officer of Siliguri Metropolitan Police, Siliguri Police Commissioner C. Sudhakar and his deputs reached the spot.
Police Deputy Commissioner B.C. Thakur said, “The conflict increased due to a cricket match controversy. During the stone pelting, we tried to stop and we had to use tear gas. Some people have been detained and police posts have been built to maintain peace in the area.”
