On Saturday (August 09, 2025), the mother of the victim of Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital alleged that women policemen misbehaved while going to West Bengal State Secretariat ‘Nabann’ to join March. The march was called to the government hospital on completion of one year of murder after the alleged rape of his daughter.
The victim’s mother claimed that her conch (traditional conch bangle) broke in the scuffle and she hurt her head. He said, ‘Why are they stopping us like this? We just want to reach ‘Nabann’ and ask for justice for our daughter.
Court permission for peaceful rally
The people involved in the rally demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to fail in the safety of women. The father of the deceased also alleged that despite the permission of the court for a peaceful rally, the police tried to stop the family from reaching the Dorina Crossing to join the march.
In an attempt to move towards Vidyasagar Setu, the protesters tried to cross the blocker in an attempt to move towards Vidyasagar Setu, ignoring the police warning of not moving beyond Rashtriya Rashoni Road Sabha site, due to which the police lathi -charged protesters at Park Street intersection in Central Kolkata.
BJP leader expressed protest
Leader of the Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari, along with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Agnimitra Paul and other BJP MLAs staged a sit -in on ‘Park Street, Jawaharlal Nehru Road Crossing’. It is alleged that more than 100 protesters, including officers and other BJP leaders, were injured in the police action.
The officer also claimed that the victim’s parents were injured during the lathicharge. Strict security arrangements were made on the route, although protesters clashed with police in Santragachhi in Howrah district.
