Increasing political violence before elections
This murder is considered to be part of a series of increasing political violence in Bangladesh. In recent days, a leader of Jubo party was also shot dead. Earlier on December 12, Inquilab Manch leader Usman Hadi was also assassinated amid political turmoil. The political atmosphere of the country has remained continuously tense since the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power following the mass movement in July.
Chaos and road jam in the area
After the firing incident, tension spread in Karwan Bazaar area. Angry people blocked the road at Sark Fountain intersection, due to which traffic came to a standstill till late night. At around 10.30, army personnel reached the spot and removed the protesters and opened the road.
Police-Army deployed, investigation ongoing
However, the protesters later returned, after which security forces cordoned off the area and vehicles were allowed to pass with caution. Police and army teams remained deployed at the spot for several hours so that the situation did not worsen further. At present, a search operation is being conducted to identify the attackers, but till Wednesday morning no one has been arrested.
