India’s rising batsman Sarfaraz Khan is once again in the headlines, but this time not because of his batting, but because of lack of selection. Ever since he did not get a place in the India A team for the two multi-day match series against South Africa A, there has been a new uproar on social media. Asaduddin Owaisi and Congress spokesperson Shama Mohammed have raised questions on the Indian cricket selection process by linking this matter to religion. His selection is being linked to the Hindu-Muslim angle.
Political war broke out, attack by Owaisi and Shama Mohammad
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi asked the selectors why Sarfaraz Khan was not given a place in the India A team. His statement indicated that perhaps religious discrimination was taking place in the selection process and he was not being given a place in the team because he was a Muslim.
After this, Congress spokesperson Shama Mohammed also raised the question by tweeting whether Sarfaraz was ignored because of his “surname”? He even said that the thinking of Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir should also be questioned. However, no one has yet officially responded to these allegations.
Where is Sarfaraz Khan after all?
While the debate is going on on social media, Sarfaraz Khan is sweating on the field. These days he is playing for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy. Recently, in the match against Jammu and Kashmir, he scored 42 runs in the first innings and 32 runs in the second innings.
The second round of Ranji Trophy is going to start from October 25, in which Mumbai team will face against Chhattisgarh, and Sarfaraz will be seen playing in it.
did tremendous work on fitness
Sarfaraz has worked hard on his fitness in the last one year. He lost about 17 kg of weight, so that he could cement his place in Team India. He was last seen in the Test series against New Zealand in November 2024.
However, since then he is being continuously ignored. He did not get a chance in the team in both England and West Indies series. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar had earlier cited his injury as the reason, but now that Sarfaraz is playing fit in Ranji, it is natural to raise questions.
Will Sarfaraz make a comeback?
Sarfaraz Khan has scored a flurry of runs in domestic cricket, but has not yet been able to win the trust of the selectors at the international level. The two-match series between India A and South Africa A is starting from October 30, the captaincy of which has been handed over to Rishabh Pant. Now the eyes of the fans will be on whether the selectors will reconsider Sarfaraz’s performance?
