How to celebrate Pongal
- Pongal is a four-day harvest festival celebrated with great pomp in South India. In this, in Bhogi Pongal, the house is cleaned and old, spoiled and unused items are thrown out.
- Then in Thai Pongal, Surya is worshipped, rice pudding is made in earthen pots as an offering to celebrate a good harvest.
- In Mattu Pongal, equipment used in fields and agriculture and animals like cows and bulls are served. They are thanked.
- On this day in Kanum Pongal, betel nuts, sugarcane juice and Pongal dishes are kept in the open on turmeric leaves. On this occasion people go to meet their families and relatives
Importance of cow service in Pongal
In the scriptures, cow service is considered the supreme religion because cow is considered to be worshiped as a mother, in which all the Gods and Goddesses reside, and its service brings happiness, prosperity, peace of mind, destruction of sins, and it is also useful for organic farming and environment, which uplifts human life. This is the reason why cow service has been given a special place in Pongal.
