Pakistan is day dreaming
In fact, in a program of Geo News on Tuesday, Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan will not need help from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the next six months. According to a report by Geo TV, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that the orders for aircraft to Pakistan have increased after the clash with India with ‘Operation Sindoor’ in May. Making a strange claim in the programme, Asif said that during the war between India and Pakistan in May 2025, the whole world saw the determination of Pakistan and the strength of its army.
Pakistan defeated by Indian Army
The reality is that India had defeated Pakistan in ‘Operation Sindoor’. In this, the Indian Army had targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan and PoK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir). Nine terrorist hideouts of Pakistan near Muridke, Bahawalpur and Lahore were completely destroyed. These were the same locations where Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were trained.
More than 100 terrorists were killed in this operation. 11 airbases of Pakistan like Mussaf, Noorkhan and Bholari were also damaged. 6 Pakistani fighter jets and 2 AWACS (Airborne Warning System) and a C-130 transport vehicle were also destroyed during this period. From this it can be understood that Pakistan was no match for the Indian Army and India’s defense system, but it seems that Khwaja Asif is far away from reality.
Where is so much confidence coming from?
In fact, recently Bangladesh Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Marshal Hasan Mahmood reached Pakistan and during this he showed interest in purchasing JF-17 Block-3 fighter aircraft from Pakistan.
Apart from this, Reuters has said in its report quoting two Pakistani sources that there are also reports of talks between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to convert the loan of about $ 2 billion into JF-17 fighter jet deal. Perhaps because of these, a clear glimpse of over-confidence is being seen in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s economy depends on IMF
To bring its country’s weakening economy back on track, Pakistan has extended its hand to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) not once but many times. Pakistan has a debt of 7.41 billion dollars, due to which it is at third place among the most indebted countries in the world. Argentina is at number one and Ukraine is at number two.
In September 2024, the IMF had approved a bailout of $7 billion for Pakistan under its Extended Fund Facility (EFF). After this, a separate loan of $1.4 billion was given under its Climate Resilience Fund in May 2025. Its objective was to strengthen the economic stability and climate resilience of the country.
