The Home Ministry said in a statement, “Pope Francis died on 21 April. A three -day state mourning will be kept across India in his honor. ”
The statement said that according to this, there will be a two -day state mourning on 22 April (Tuesday) and 23 April (Wednesday). Apart from this, one day state mourning will be there on the funeral day. The statement said that during the period of state mourning, the national flag will be half bent on all the buildings across India where the national flag is regularly hoisted. No official entertainment program will be held during the period of mourning.
PM Modi expressed grief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed condolences on the demise of Pope Francis and said that millions of people around the world will always remember him as a symbol of compassion, humility and spiritual courage.
PM Modi said in a post on ‘X’, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Param Holiness Pope Francis. My heartiest condolences to the global Catholic community in this hour of grief and remembrance. Pope Francis will always be remembered as a symbol of compassion, humility and spiritual courage by millions of people around the world.” He said, “From a young age, he had dedicated himself to realize the ideals of Lord Jesus Christ. He served the poor and Dalits with dedication. Those who were suffering, raised a sense of hope in their minds.”

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar said that Pope’s “compassion and commitment to the creation of the world” defines his actions as the Pope.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that Francis will be remembered for his remarkable service towards human society, especially the poor and marginalized people.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday expressed condolences on the death of Pope Francis and described it as “damage to humanity”. He said, “We are saddened by his death, which is a big loss.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah mourned the demise of Pope Francis in a post on ‘X’ and said that his life was compassion for the poor and hope for the world.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed grief over the demise of Pope Francis, saying that he was an advocate and excellent humanist of inter-religious interaction who had left a very valuable heritage behind him.
