ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: The Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) has undergone a large-scale renovation ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, starting next month. New floodlights have been installed in this prestigious stadium. This stadium has become the fifth international cricket stadium in Sri Lanka in which day and night matches can now be organised. The first match of the T20 World Cup will be played between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 7 on this ground.
New floodlights installed in Sinhalese Sports Club
Sinhalese Sports Club has thus joined the list of Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Pallekele Stadium in Kandy, Rangiri Dambulla Stadium in Dambulla and Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota. Where now international day and night matches can be organised. SSC hosted the first One Day International match played in Sri Lanka in 1982. The headquarters of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is also located here. Sri Lanka Cricket Treasurer Sujeewa Godaliadda told reporters, ‘The new lighting system is based on state-of-the-art LED technology and has been designed to meet the needs of international cricket and broadcasting.
Venues of T20 World Cup 2026
Both India and Sri Lanka are joint host countries of T20 World Cup 2026. All the matches of this Mahakumbh of cricket will be played on 8 stadiums. The names of those stadiums are as follows – Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, two venues in Colombo, Premadasa Stadium and Sinhalese Sports Club and Pallekele Stadium in Kandy. This time a total of 20 teams will participate in the tournament, which have been divided into four groups.
