Trump tarifs: The 26 percent of the reciperook tariff that former US President Donald Trump imposed on India has come into effect today (April 9). This tariff has started at a time when tension is increasing in business relationships worldwide. The US says that this decision has been taken because India had earlier taxed American goods and now the US has taken this step in its response.
Trump had announced to set up a resiprocal tariff on 3 April during his ‘Mukti Divas’ program held at the Rose Garden of the White House.
Trump announces heavy tariffs on many countries
US President Donald Trump has announced that the US will now impose at least 10 percent tariffs on most of its business partner countries. Along with this, more taxes will be levied on those countries who sell more goods to America but buy less than that. Apart from India, Trump announced 46 percent on Vietnam, 32 percent on Taiwan, 25 percent on South Korea, 24 percent on Japan and 20 percent on European Union.
Apart from this, Trump also announced to impose 34 percent new tariffs on China. This tariff will be additional above the 20 percent fee levied earlier this year. After this, China also retaliated and put a tariff on America. After this move of China, Trump has imposed an extra tariff of up to 50 percent on him.
Trump told Modi while putting tariff on India
During his announcement on 3 April, Donald Trump described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a good friend, but also said that India is not treating America properly. Trump had said, “The Prime Minister of India has recently gone from America. He is my good friend, but I clearly told him that you are my friend, but you are not treating us properly. India takes 52% tax from us, so we will also impose half of it on India.”
