Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has given a big statement on Saturday (November 1, 2025) regarding relations with India. PM Mark Carney said that Canada is making positive progress in strengthening its relations with India. He also emphasized that Canada is working on building new partnerships abroad amid tariff pressures from the United States.
This comment of PM Mark Carney comes at a time when US President Donald Trump ended all trade talks with Canada last week, saying that Canada’s behavior has been completely unacceptable. At the same time, the Canadian Prime Minister has also talked about reducing dependence on America.
APEC Canadian Prime Minister spoke in South Korea after the summit
Speaking to reporters after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in South Korea, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said, ‘We are building new partnerships with countries around the world and the best place to do this is the Asia-Pacific region, which accounts for 60 percent of the global economy.’
Talks are continuing with India – Carney
Along with this, he also mentioned the free trade agreement with Indonesia, the ongoing negotiations with Philippines and Thailand and the important turn in relations with China. PM Carney said, ‘We are making progress with India also. I did not meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly at the APEC summit, but our Foreign Minister and other ministers are talking to India.
He said, ‘We are working first on the domestic front to increase the strength of our country. We are forming new partnerships abroad so that our dependence on America can be reduced. This is not something that will happen overnight, but we are moving very fast.
