A major accident took place during the celebrations in Jejuri of Pune district after the victory in the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections of Maharashtra. About 8 to 9 people were injured when a fire broke out near the stairs of Jejuri temple while blowing haldi-kumkum and offering bhandara in celebration of victory. Some local corporators who won in this incident also got burnt.

How did the fire break out?

According to the information received, after the counting of votes was completed, party workers and supporters had reached Jejuri temple to offer bhandara at the feet of Lord Khanderaya. Turmeric, kumkum and other things were being offered near the stairs of the temple. Meanwhile, suddenly a fire broke out, causing chaos among the people present there. The flames reached several feet high. According to eyewitnesses, the fire spread so fast that some people could not control themselves and got burnt.

Suspicion of fire caused by lamp or firecracker

A senior Pune Police official said that preliminary investigation has revealed that some part of the Bhandara had fallen on the burning lamp, due to which there is a possibility of fire. Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Gill also confirmed that five to six people were seriously burnt in the accident, while others suffered minor injuries.

Police are also investigating whether firecrackers were burst at the spot, due to which the fire broke out. At present the exact cause of the fire is not clear and the investigation is ongoing. The police administration has appealed to the people to exercise restraint and vigilance during festivals and celebrations.
