Punjab: AAP MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura sentenced to 4 years, what will be the legislature?

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura was sentenced to four years by the court. On Wednesday (September 10), the court convicted the Khadur Sahib (Khadoor Sahib Assembly Constituency) MLA in the case of 12 -year -old molestation of the woman. The MLA of the court’s decision was arrested. On Friday (September 12), the court ruled. 10 more people were convicted along with Lalpura.

Woman was attacked on 3 March 2013

On 3 March 2013, the victim woman was attacked by some policemen, Manjinder Singh Lalpura and other accused at a wedding ceremony at Goindwal Sahib in Taran Taran. A case was registered against Manjinder Singh, eight policemen and three others, Section 354 of IPC (Use of women with the intention of hurting the dignity of the woman), 323 (punishment for deliberately hurting), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148, 149 and SC-ST Act.

Will the legislature end?

If an MLA is sentenced to more than two years, then the membership of his assembly ends. After the court’s decision on Wednesday, the victim said that she is happy.

Lalpura was a taxi driver at the time of the incident

According to the victim’s lawyer, Manjinder Singh Lalpura was a taxi driver when this case came to light. In the year 2022, AAP gave ticket to Lalpura from Taran Taran’s Khadur Sahib seat and defeated Congress by a margin of 55 thousand 756 votes.

Case reached Supreme Court

The matter also reached the Supreme Court. Taking automatic cognizance of the case, the Supreme Court had directed the victim woman, her relative Jagjit Singh (who was eyewitness) and the sarpanch of the village to provide paramilitary protection. On 19 March 2013, the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered the transfer of seven policemen involved in the case immediately.
