In view of the continuous heavy rains and flood situation in Punjab, the state government has taken a big step. The government has issued an order to close all universities, colleges and polytechnic institutions by 3 September 2025, keeping the already closed schools holidays. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of students and relief operations in flood affected areas.
Government’s decision and education minister’s statement
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains issued an order on 1 September, stating that universities, colleges and polytechnic institutions will be closed with immediate effect due to heavy rains and floods. He posted on the social media platform x and informed that till September 3, all higher educational institutions will be closed. He said that the entire responsibility of safety of the students living in the hostels will be on the administrative units of the concerned institute.

Flouges increased due to floods and rain
Due to continuous rains, there are situations like waterlogging and floods in many districts of Punjab. Traffic on roads and bridges is being affected, due to which it has become difficult for students and teachers to come and go. The government believes that increasing the holidays is the safest option in current circumstances. Apart from this, the administration has also appealed to follow the guidelines issued at the local level.
Message to students and parents
In his message, the Education Minister has also urged the parents to stop their children from unnecessary travel and trust only the official information. Relief work is going on in flood affected areas and the government has assured that educational institutions will be opened again as soon as the situation is normal.
