Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in India on a 2-day visit. During this time, on the night of 4 December 2025 at 7LKM, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited Putin for dinner. Before that both the leaders had reached 7LKM in a car from the airport. The meeting between Modi and Putin lasted for about 2:30 hours at the PM’s residence. PM Modi and Putin had talks alone on many important issues. During that time, PM Modi presented Geeta translated into Russian language to Putin.

About fifteen years ago, a case arose in Tomsk city of Siberia, which created a political stir in India. Local officials took exception to the Russian translation of “Bhagavad Gita As It Is” published by ISKCON and tried to label it extremist literature. The allegations were so serious that it was proposed that it be included in Russia’s extremist book list.

The story on the same Bhagavad Gita in the gift has been completely changed.
History presented itself in a new form. When PM Modi and Putin came face to face in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented him Bhagavad Gita translated in Russian language. This gift was not just a book. This was the message that the clouds of the past have cleared and both the countries are standing on the foundation of stronger trust than before. Today, India and Russia are seeing their relationship not just as a partnership but as a historical friendship and during that friendship, the existence of a spiritual text like Gita in itself tells that both the countries have not only left behind the disputes of the past, but also made them the basis of a new beginning.
