A major political step has come to light amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that US officials will visit Moscow next week. This visit will be for talks on the 28-point peace proposal presented by US President Donald Trump last week. Putin gave this information while talking to the media after his three-day visit to Kyrgyzstan.
Russia ready for Trump’s proposal
Putin said that the peace proposal presented by America can become the basis for negotiations. He said, ‘We are ready for detailed talks on every point of this proposal.’ However, he also made it clear that Ukraine will first have to withdraw its troops from those areas which Russia claims as its own. Putin warned that if the Ukrainian army does not retreat, Russia will do so with the help of weapons.
Ukraine’s counterattack – ‘Peace will not be decided by Russian threats’
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected Putin’s statement and said that peace will not be decided by Russia’s threats or warnings, but on international terms. Zelensky said in his address, ‘Together with the American representatives, we are taking forward the peace points established in Geneva and working towards security.’
Big preparation from America
According to sources, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff will reach Moscow next week, while US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is preparing to visit Kiev soon. In a recently leaked audio, it was claimed that Witkoff was advising Russia on how to negotiate to influence Trump. Commenting on this, Putin said in a lighter tone that Vitkoff seems to be a sensible person. They have to create an environment for dialogue.
Uneasiness in Europe, efforts to join talks
The security of European countries is considered to be in danger due to the Russia-Ukraine war. For this reason, now many European leaders are also trying to participate in this dialogue so that their role in the peace process can be decided. Putin claimed that Russia will neither attack NATO nor Europe. He termed all such allegations as lies. However, he reiterated that Ukraine should not join NATO and there should not be Western military bases on its territory.
