Putin Reaction on Nobel Peace Prize: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday reacted to the Norwegian committee’s decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition activist Maria Corina Machado. Putin said that US President Donald Trump has been ignored.
Hours after the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize, Putin said, ‘Trump has done a lot for peace. The biggest example of this is the Middle East. Putin was referring to the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Gaza, which was finalized on Thursday and became effective from today.
‘The Nobel Committee has often honored the wrong people’
Putin further said that many times the Nobel Committee has given the award to people who have done nothing for peace. The prestige of this award has been lost to a great extent. However, he further said, ‘I don’t know whether Trump is eligible for this or not.’ Trump did not receive the Nobel Prize this year, even though his Republican allies and many countries, including Russia, lobbied in his favor.
Israel’s Prime Minister also gave a statement in support of Trump
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also supported Trump and said, ‘The Nobel Committee talks about peace and President Donald Trump makes it possible. He speaks the truth. President Trump deserves this honor.
Norway’s committee praised Machado’s struggle
This year the Nobel Peace Prize has been given to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. The Norwegian Nobel Committee said in its statement that this honor has been given to him for his tireless struggle to promote the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and for a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.
