‘Rahul Gandhi is immature, he does not understand the economy’, Piyush Goyal got angry when questions were raised on India-US trade deal.

Congress is attacking the opposition from Parliament to the streets regarding the trade deal between India and America. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal took a dig at Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, calling him immature and saying he has no understanding of the economy. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi alleges that the proposed trade deal has such conditions which will harm the farmers of India. Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the opposition does not have any proper agenda to criticize the Narendra Modi government, hence it is spreading misinformation.

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on Saturday (14 February 2026), ‘Rahul Gandhi is thousands of miles away from the truth and a leader like him who has lost credibility, no matter how hard he tries, cannot stop Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his service to the nation. Congress is desperate. He has no plan or solution other than making false and fabricated claims. They have no solid basis to criticize us. They are trying to mislead farmers by spreading wrong information.

The Union Minister said that Congress has failed to understand its limitations. He said, ‘Rahul Gandhi has no understanding of the economy, he only writes false and misleading things on social media. He is miles away from the truth. Both India’s cotton production capacity and requirement will increase. Importing raw materials, processing them and exporting them is an old method in global trade.

Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against the government regarding farmers

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi raised the question why India is being kept in the position of 18 percent tariff versus 0 percent compared to America? He alleged that this deal will cause loss to Indian farmers, especially cotton growers and the textile sector. Taking a jibe at these allegations of the Congress leader, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that when immature people come into politics, allegations of this level are made.

Government protected the interests of farmers: Piyush Goyal

Earlier on February 13, the Union Minister had clarified that India has completely protected the interests of farmers in the trade deal with America. He said that when we were negotiating a trade deal with America, we were very clear about one thing that we have to protect the interests of our farmers. He said, ‘The areas where production in our country is highest and our country is self-reliant, those areas have been kept out of this deal.’
