exam pattern

A total of 100 questions will be asked in the CBT exam, to solve which you will get 90 minutes. The exam will be based on four subjects – General Science, Mathematics, General Awareness and Current Affairs, and General Intelligence and Reasoning. There will be a fixed number of questions from each subject and the total marks will also be 100. There will be a negative marking of 1/3 mark for every wrong answer, hence it is important to answer carefully.

Understand the exam pattern and marking scheme well

The first condition of success is that you completely understand the structure of the exam. It is important to know from which subjects more questions come and which should be given special attention. In Mathematics, focus on topics like percentage, average, time and distance. In reasoning power, practice on analytical reasoning, pattern recognition and decision making ability. In Science, questions come from Physics, Chemistry and Biology up to 10th level, whereas in General Awareness, national-international events and information related to Railways are important.

Focus on important topics

Often there are some topics in the examination which have high weightage. Identify these and pay special attention to them. This method helps in getting more marks in less time. These topics can be identified by analyzing old question papers.

Make a regular study plan

Studying without planning in the last days can be harmful. Make a precise study schedule which includes all the subjects. Solve mathematics and reasoning questions daily and also revise current affairs once every week. Complete the preparation in a phased manner by setting small goals.

Make notes and revise over and over again

Making short notes while studying is very beneficial, it makes revision easy and important formulas or facts can be quickly looked up at the time of examination. Prepare a separate list of formulas for Maths and Science and keep a separate notebook for General Knowledge or Current Affairs.

Solve old papers and mock tests

Solving old question papers and giving mock tests is the most effective way of exam preparation. It helps the candidates to understand the exam pattern, level of questions and time management. After every mock test, analyze your mistakes and try to correct them.
