Language dispute in Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, Hindi was made compulsory as the third language for students from 1 to 5th on 17 April. On 29 June 2025, the Maharashtra government had decided for 3 language formula. This decision was implemented on all Marathi and English medium schools of the state. The National Education Policy (NEP) The policy of three languages for these classes was implemented in Maharashtra keeping in mind the new Karikulum of 2020.

Updated guidelines were released after the dispute escalated. Students studying from class 1 to 5 in Marathi and English Medium could choose other Indian languages apart from Hindi as the third language. The condition for this was that at least 20 students of one class should choose another language other than Hindi. In such a situation, second language teachers will also be appointed in the school. If the number of students choosing second language is less than 20, then that language was to be studied online.

Earlier Raj and Uddhav Thackeray were to separate the rally

Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray were scheduled to hold a joint rally in Mumbai on 5 July amid the ongoing controversy over Hindi language in Maharashtra. But after withdrawing the proposal of language mandatory, the two leaders are preparing to take out the Marathi Vijay rally. Earlier, Uddhav announced to take out a rally on 6 July and MNS chief on 7 July. NCP Chief Sharad Pawar has also supported Thackeray brothers. The Maharashtra government made Hindi the third compulsory language on 17 April this year. After the protest, the government changed the decision.

When and why did Raj Thackeray separate from Shiv Sena?

Raj Thackeray resigned from Shiv Sena in November 2005. He founded the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in Mumbai on March 2006. The main reason for Raj Thackeray’s exit from the Shiv Sena was the power struggle within the party. Raj’s fierce Marathi-Hindutva trek while Uddhav Thackeray had a balanced approach. In the 2009 elections, MNS won 13 seats and cut the votes of Shiv Sena.

He was angry that cousin Uddhav Thackeray was being prepared as the party’s founder and successor. Like Bal Thackeray, the secrets were not satisfied with the way of leading the party leading. Internal family mobility also played a role in it. There was also differences with his cousin Uddhav over leadership. Later, after meeting the two at the wedding ceremony in 2025, there was speculation of reconciliation.
