After the announcement of Babri Masjid in West Bengal, now the construction of Ram temple has also been announced. Ram temple will be built on the lines of Ayodhya in Shantipur of Nadia district on 15 bigha land, about 90 kilometers away from the replica of Babri Masjid to be built in Murshidabad. The idol of Lord Ram will be as described in the Krittivasi Ramayana written by the 14th century Bengali poet Krittibas Ojha, who lived in Phulia.
According to the report of Indian Express, according to Shri Krittibas Ram Mandir Trust, the organization that constructed the temple, the foundation stone of the temple will be laid in February. However, this initiative, which was started in 2017, is being launched again just a few months before the assembly elections. Located at Champtola Sadhurghat in Shantipur, this temple is about 90 km from Beldanga, where former TMC MLA Humayun Kabir had laid the foundation of Babri Masjid.
Let us tell you that this step has been taken immediately after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated Jagannath Dham in Digha and laid the foundation stone of Durgangan in New Town and Mahakal Temple in Siliguri.
What did Trust President Arindam Bhattacharya say?
Trust president Arindam Bhattacharya, a former Congress MLA who later joined the BJP, said, “This is not a political move. It is a religious and cultural initiative which was started in 2017 when I was the MLA from Shantipur. Later, I moved out for some time and our team disintegrated. Now we have once again started work on this project. In 2017, the area for the proposed temple and the river ghat adjacent to it were identified.”
‘The idol of Lord Ram will be like the idol described in Ramayana’
Bhattacharya further said, “This temple is a part of reviving and preserving our culture here. Apart from the temple, the complex will also have a research centre, digital heritage center and a cultural centre.” He further said that this temple will be a replica of the Ram temple of Ayodhya, but the statue of Lord Ram in it will be similar to the one described in Ramayana. Lord Ram’s color will be green and he will be seated in the sanctum sanctorum along with Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman.
According to Bhattacharya, the trust already has 15 bighas (about 9.73 acres) of land available for the temple and the design of both the temple and the statue have been finalised.
