The contest for the post of Mayor has started in Ranchi, Jharkhand and this time most of the businessmen are in the fray for the chair of the city government. This has been revealed from the affidavits of the candidates. Among these, the largest number are those claimants who are associated with some business or the other. Whereas these candidates include only 9 graduates and 3 post graduates.
It is not that there are no candidates from other backgrounds, a large number of candidates belonging to political parties and from professions like builder, contractor, lawyer, farmer are also in the fray. Now a total of 19 candidates are in the fray.

In the affidavit of the candidates, Mayor candidates Vinod Badhaik, Sonu Khalkho and Sujit Kumar Kachhap have stated their profession as builder. Whereas Sujit Vijay Anand Kunder has stated his profession as contractor and Devi Dayal Munda as advocacy. Apart from this, those who declare business as their profession include Catherine Tirkey, Rama Khalkho, Surendra Linda, Sanjay Kumar Toppo, Praveen Kachhap, Kiran Kumari, Anil Lakra, Bikki Tirkey. Roshni Khalkho has described her profession as personal business. Ramlakhan Munda, Sunil Fakira Kachhap and Ram Sharan Tirkey have declared agriculture as their profession, Suman Kant Tigga as a retired employee and Sujit Kumar Kachhap as his profession.
