RBI Repo Rate: Big discount on home loan! RBI may reduce repo rate again in February

RBI Repo Rate: The next monetary policy meeting of the Reserve Bank of India is scheduled to be held between 4–6 February. In this, the repo rate is expected to be reduced by 0.25 percent. The country’s economy has reached a critical juncture. In such a situation, economists believe that the repo rate can be reduced by 0.25 percent.

Maintaining a balance between controlling inflation and growth is a big challenge for the RBI. RBI is currently focusing on increasing liquidity in the market. In such a situation, experts believe that RBI can reduce the repo rate to 5.25 percent to promote consumer spending and investment.

There will be big savings on home loan!

The reduction in repo rate has a direct impact on home loans. If this time also the Reserve Bank cuts the repo rate by 0.25 percent, then there will be a saving of about Rs 800 every month on a loan of Rs 50 lakh for 20 years at an interest rate of 9 percent because due to the reduction in the repo rate, the interest rate will also come down from 9 percent to 8.75 percent, which will result in a saving of Rs 1.9 lakh in total interest. If you want, you can choose the option to reduce your EMI or keep it the same and reduce the loan tenure by 10-12 months. This will save more than Rs 4 lakh.

However, rating agency CRISIL has said in its report that in view of the increasing inflation, it is possible that RBI may keep the interest rates stable in its next monetary policy review meeting. Crisil said, ‘In view of the increase in inflation, we are expecting that RBI will not make any change in the policy rates for now.’

How much will the repo rate be reduced in 2025?

MPC has reduced the repo rate by 125 basis points from February 2025 till now. First of all, cuts were made by 25 bps in February and April, 50 bps in June and 25 bps in December. Meanwhile, RBI did not make any change in the repo rate in the monetary policy review of August and October.
