Pineapple contains both bromelain and acid. These elements help in digestion, but for people who suffer from gastritis, acidity, stomach burning or frequent stomach pain, this fruit can make the stomach lining even more active. This may increase the problem of heartburn, stomach pain, nausea or gas.

Pineapple is not at all a good option for people who have stomach or intestinal ulcers. Its acidic nature and bromelain, together can further irritate the ulcer area, increasing pain and irritation.

The glycemic index of pineapple is medium, but it contains very high natural sugar. For people with diabetes, it can cause a sudden increase in blood sugar. If someone likes this fruit, then he should eat it in limited quantity and as per the doctor’s advice.

Some people are allergic to pineapple, which can be detected only after eating it. Symptoms of allergy include itching on the lips or tongue, swelling of the throat, skin rash, mild discomfort in the stomach. If such symptoms appear, pineapple should be stopped immediately.

Bromelain can alter the effects of many medicines. Especially blood thinners, some antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs. Consuming pineapple along with these can increase or decrease the reaction of the medicine in the body. Therefore, people taking such medicines should not eat pineapple without consulting the doctor.

Pineapple may taste great, but it is quite acidic. For people suffering from tooth decay, sensitivity or any gum problem, this acid can weaken the tooth enamel. Eating continuously and in large quantities can also increase tooth pain or decay.
