Delhi news: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, expressing serious concern over the illegal sand mining happening in the Yamuna river. He has demanded that this mining be banned with immediate effect in the Yamuna region bordering Delhi and UP.
The Chief Minister says that the embankments of Yamuna are weakening due to illegal mining, due to which the risk of floods is continuously increasing. At the same time, it is also damaging the environment, which can prove to be dangerous for the river and surrounding areas in the future.
Rekha Gupta has emphasized in her letter that this problem is of interstate level, so it is necessary to work together between the governments of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
He has demanded a joint enforcement mechanism and inter-state demarcation, so that the administration of the two states can stop illegal activities with mutual coordination. The Chief Minister also informed in the letter that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has also constantly expressed concern over illegal mining in Yamuna.
NGT believes that such activities are not only damaging the ecology of the river, but also putting the local population in danger. According to Delhi government officials, he has sent several letters to the concerned officials of Uttar Pradesh about the dangers related to mining along the Yamuna.
Officials say that this mining is not only against the rules, but it also includes the natural flow of the river and tampering in the river floor, causing serious ecological imbalance.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has expressed confidence that the UP government will take this subject seriously and necessary steps will be taken to save Yamuna with the coordinated efforts of both the states.
