The Election Commission of India (ECI) is going to conduct a special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in 12 states of the country, regarding which the Congress Party called a meeting on Tuesday (November 18, 2025). In this meeting, senior Congress leaders including AICC general secretaries and AICC incharges of all those states and union territories where the Election Commission is going to conduct SIR participated. However, senior party leader and Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor remained missing from this very important meeting of Congress.
On behalf of the Congress high command, MP Shashi Tharoor was also invited to participate in this important meeting. However, Shashi Tharoor’s office cited health reasons behind his absence from the meeting. His office said that Shashi Tharoor is not well, hence he did not participate in the party meeting.
Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal gave information after the meeting
Congress Party Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal said that a comprehensive review was conducted with the General Secretaries, In-charges, PCC, CLP and Secretaries of All India Congress Committee (AICC) to formulate a comprehensive strategy on the SIR to be held in 12 states and union territories on Tuesday (November 18, 2025) at Indira Bhawan, the Congress headquarters in Delhi.
Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is working at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Election Commission is destroying the democracy of the country. Votes of some sections are being deliberately deducted from the voter list of the states, this is completely undemocratic. He said that in the first week of December, a mega rally will be organized in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan against SIR.
Congress committed to protect the purity of voter list- Kharge
At the same time, National President of Congress Party Mallikarjun Kharge has shared a post regarding this meeting on social media platform X. He said that the Congress Party is fully committed to protecting the purity of the voter list. He said that the Election Commission should immediately provide proof that it is not working under the patronage of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and that it remembers its constitutional oath and its loyalty to the people of the country.
