America has intensified its military action against Islamic State (ISIS) bases in Syria. US Central Command (CENTCOM) has released a new video and information about the ongoing operation under ‘Operation Hawkeye Strike’. This action was initiated after the attack in Palmyra in December, in which two American soldiers and an American interpreter were killed. America has clearly said that attacks on its soldiers will be responded to strictly.
Campaign started after Palmyra attack
According to Centcom, this operation was started on 19 December 2025. On December 13, an attacker opened fire in Palmyra. The attacker was said to have recently been recruited into the Syrian security forces and it was revealed that he was associated with extremist organizations. He was killed on the spot after the attack. US officials said the operation was launched to hold those responsible for the attack to account and prevent ISIS from becoming stronger again.
10 accurate attacks in February
CENTCOM said that between February 3 and February 12, 10 precision air strikes were carried out in the new phase of the campaign. More than 30 positions linked to ISIS were targeted in these attacks. These included weapons warehouses, communication networks and logistics centers, which were helping the organization’s activities.
Which aircraft were used
Aircraft like F-15E Strike Eagle, A-10 Warthog, AC-130J Ghostrider and MQ-9 Reaper drone were involved in this campaign. Apart from this, Jordan’s F-16 planes also cooperated. According to US officials, at least 50 ISIS fighters have been killed or arrested since the start of the operation.
‘If our soldiers are harmed, there will be an answer’
CENTCOM gave a strong message in its statement saying that if American soldiers are harmed then those responsible will be found and killed in any corner of the world. The then Defense Minister Pete Hegseth had called it not the beginning of a wider war, but a ‘limited and targeted action’. He called it ‘declaration of revenge’.
5,700 suspects sent to Iraq
America and its allies have taken another big step to maintain stability in the region. According to Centcom, more than 5,700 ISIS suspects held in Syrian prisons have been sent to Iraq. Officials say that this will reduce the chances of jail break and escape and will prevent the organization from gathering strength again.
America says that amid the changing situation in Syria, its priority is to prevent ISIS from becoming active again and Operation Hawkeye Strike is part of this strategy.
