Rohit was broken after the World Cup final
During a program of Gurugram’s Masters Union, Rohit Sharma said that he was feeling completely empty after the 2023 World Cup final. Rohit told, “I felt that cricket had taken everything from me. I did not want to play this game further. At that time there was no energy left in me.”
It is noteworthy that under the captaincy of Rohit, India had won 9 consecutive matches in that tournament and had made a great journey till the final. However, Travis Head’s century in the final played in Ahmedabad broke India’s dream.
Responsibility and mental pressure of captaincy
Rohit told that because he was the captain, this defeat was even more heavy for him. He said, “I had dedicated myself to that World Cup, not just for two-three months, but since becoming the captain in 2022. When the target was not achieved, everyone was very disappointed. We could not believe what happened. This time was very difficult for me personally.”
It took him several months to recover from this defeat. He reminded himself again and again that cricket was his biggest love and it could not be given up so easily.
The way back and new beginnings
Rohit admitted that gradually he controlled himself, started practicing again and mustered the courage to return to the field. He said, “It was a big lesson for me. How to deal with disappointment, how to reset yourself and how to move forward.”
However, Rohit has now retired from T20 International and Test cricket. The ODI captaincy has also been taken away from him, but he is still playing ODI cricket. His aim is to play the 2027 ODI World Cup and end his career on a high note.

Almost a year after the disappointment of 2023, Rohit Sharma led India to the 2024 T20 World Cup. This victory definitely healed the old wounds.
