ICC Chairman Jay Shah has declared Rohit Sharma as the brand ambassador of the 2026 T20 World Cup. It was under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma that India won the 2024 T20 World Cup title, after which he retired from this format. Jai Shah said that there could not have been a better person than Rohit Sharma for the responsibility of ambassador. Being the brand ambassador, Rohit Sharma will make an important contribution in promoting the T20 World Cup at the global level.
Announcing Rohit Sharma as the brand ambassador, Jay Shah said, “It is an honor for me to announce that I will be the brand ambassador of the T20 World Cup 2026 to be held in India and Sri Lanka. There could not be a better representative of this event than the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma. A player who has played all 9 T20 World Cups so far.”
ICC has also announced the complete schedule for the T20 World Cup. The first match of the World Cup will be played between Pakistan and Netherlands on 7 February. Whereas the Indian team will play its first match with USA on 7th February. If we remember, ICC had announced four brand ambassadors for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Yuvraj Singh, Shahid Afridi, Chris Gayle and veteran Olympian Usain Bolt were declared brand ambassadors.
Rohit Sharma may not play in the 2026 T20 World Cup, but being the brand ambassador, he will be seen on the field many times during matches. Rohit Sharma became the second Indian captain to win the T20 World Cup in 2024. Before him, MS Dhoni had done this in 2007.
