Viral Message: These days, a message is going viral on social media, in which it is being claimed that Rs 46715 is being deposited in the account of every citizen of the country by the government. It is also being claimed in the viral message that the government has taken this step with the aim of reducing the economic crisis in the country.
People are sharing this message on a large scale. The fact check team of Press Information Bureau (PIB), the official agency of the Government of India, investigated this viral claim and found it to be completely fake. The agency has clearly stated that the Finance Ministry has neither announced nor started any such scheme.

The limit was reached when along with this fake message, a button or link was also given in the name of ‘Register for support’. Such links are often used for phishing. Phishing means an attempt to fraudulently obtain your personal information or bank details. In this, scammers collect all your important information from you on the pretext of registration.
Government’s appeal to citizens
The government has urged people not to trust any such messages going viral on social media and to check the truth by visiting the official portal. For the safety of the citizens of the country, one should avoid sharing their important information or personal details like bank details on any such suspicious link. Instead of forwarding such fake messages or videos, there is a need to report them to Cyber Cell or PIB Fact Check.
Every day new tactics are being adopted to commit cyber fraud scams and one of these methods is phishing. In such a situation, to protect yourself, think ten times before clicking on any unknown link. Avoid sharing important information like bank details, OTP, CVV with anyone. If you notice something wrong, immediately inform the police. Apart from these, always keep 2-factor authentication on and also use antivirus. A little caution on your part can save you from a big fraud.
